1st PMFC 4th Maneuver Company’s urban gardening project boost food production

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — In a remarkable initiative to promote self-sufficiency and resourcefulness, PCapt. Silvestre Colanza, Platoon Leader, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), 4th Maneuver Platoon, has launched an urban gardening project within the premises of the Patrol Base stationed in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija.

The garden features a variety of vegetables, including okra, eggplant, and other crops, which are planted innovatively in recycled tires and will be utilized to supplement the food needs of the personnel stationed at the center.

The urban garden aims to make the most of the available space while providing fresh and nutritious produce to support daily meals.

Capt. Colanza’s leadership in this initiative underscores the value of maximizing local resources to enhance food security within the police and AFP community.

“This project is a significant step toward self-sufficiency. By growing our own vegetables using creative methods like planting in tires, we not only reduce our dependence on outside food sources but also encourage a culture of sustainability among our personnel,” said Colanza.

The initiative is a practical example of how innovative solutions can be implemented to address food supply challenges. The garden’s harvest, which includes okra, eggplant, and other vegetables, will directly contribute to meal preparations, ensuring that the personnel have access to fresh, organic produce.

“Our goal is to cultivate a sustainable food source that benefits both our operations and our people. This initiative promotes teamwork and responsibility while also serving as a model for others to follow in maximizing their resources which is in line with our Provincial Director Col. Ferdinand Germino’s guidance aligned with our Regional Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan’s Makabagong Pulis sa Makabagong Panahon,” Colanza added.

As the garden continues to thrive, it represents a broader vision of resilience and adaptability within the police force, led by the dedicated efforts of the 1st PMFC, 4th Maneuver Platoon. The urban gardening project not only addresses immediate food needs but also paves the way for long-term sustainability in the community. (UnliNews Online)
