ANGELES CITY — The Pi Sigma Fraternity-Pampanga Chapter, also known as the Paragon of Scholars, celebrated its 45th founding anniversary on Sunday (Oct. 27) with a Barong-Filipiniana Night gala themed ‘Greatness @45’ in Angeles City.
Pi Sigma was founded by student leader-activists at the University of the Philippines in Diliman on August 15, 1972—a month before martial law was declared—and was established in Pampanga on October 27, 1979.
Among its more prominent members are the late Senator Raul Roco, Kabataan party-list representative Terry Ridon, Angeles City business leader Philip Samson and lawyer Mark Lumboy, along with diplomat-journalist Consul General Elmer Cato.
Department of Transportation Undersecretary Jeremy Regino, one of the fraternity’s pioneer members from the UP, delivered the keynote speech during the gala night.
Alvin Chincuanco, a banker based in the City of San Fernando and the Pi Sigma provincial president said the “Pampanga (chapter) has stepped up to its brand of greatness with the addition of public servants and professionals among its ranks, consistent of being leaders serving the people.”
The celebration comes at the wake of a successful health care mission by Pi Sigma members belonging to the medical and dental profession, along with grocery package distribution to some 150 indigents in a depressed fishing community in Consuelo, Macababe.
The organization’s mottos are “Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan” and “Paragon of Scholarship.” (UnliNews Online)
