NLEX provides free eye care services for bus drivers

CITY OF BALIWAG. Bulacan — About 100 bus drivers received an early Christmas gift from NLEX Corporation on the 8th leg of its “See Clearly, Drive Safely” program.

NLEX offered free eye consultation, visual accuracy examination, refraction tests, and eye disease screening to selected member drivers of Nagkakaisang Samahan ng Nangangasiwa ng Panlalawigang Bus sa Pilipinas, Inc.

(NSNPBPI). Participating drivers came from Baliwag Transit, Inc., Bataan Transit Co., Inc., Cisco Bus Co., Genesis Transport Service, Inc., Pangasinan Five Star Bus Company, Inc., and Victory Liner, Inc. Free reading and prescription eyeglasses were also provided to those in need, ensuring their vision remains optimal for safe driving.

“Ang See Clearly, Drive Safely ay isang Corporate Social Responsibility initiative na aming sinimulan noong 2017. Magmula noon, nananatiling adbokasiya ng NLEX ang pagsulong ng malinaw na paningin para sa ating mga motorista bilang bahagi ng aming hangarin na mapanatili ang road safety,” said NLEX Corporation’s Assistant Vice President for Customer Experience and Marketing, Ms. Frances Ruth Dela Cruz. Noting that maintaining clear eyesight, along with following road safety practices and traffic laws, is part of responsible driving and plays a crucial role in reducing road crashes.

NSNPBPI Executive Director Alex Yague shared the program’s positive impact on the drivers.”Nahihikayat ng ganitong programa ang ating mga driver na bigyang atensyon ang kalagayan ng kanilang mga mata lalo’t libre ito. Salamat sa NLEX sa pagbibigay importansya sa kalusugan ng mga motorista nito,” he said.

Bataan Transit driver Emmanuel M. Sapia-an expressed his gratefulness to NLEX for his new prescription glasses. “Malaking kagaanan po na nabigyan po kami ng bagong salamin nang libre. Maraming salamat po. Mas komportable at mas malinaw na po kaming makakapagmaneho,” he said.

Since its launch in 2017, nearly a thousand transport drivers from various groups and communities have benefited from the program, which equips them with better eye care. The initiative underscores NLEX’s commitment to promoting good eyesight as a vital factor in ensuring the safety of drivers and other road users alike.

NLEX Corporation is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road arm of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC). (UnliNews Online)
