MANILA – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives have confiscated P43.36 million worth of electronics in Meycauayan, Bulacan amid the government campaign against illegal manufacturing and distribution of consumer goods.
In a statement Thursday (Feb. 5), CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said CIDG personnel, armed with search warrant for violation Republic Act 7394 or Consumer Act of the Philippines, arrested four suspects during operation dubbed Oplan Megashopper.
Chi Ho, a Chinese owner of the raided Hot Screen Electric Corporation located along Global St., Sterling Industrial Park in Barangay Libtong, was among the arrested suspects.
Torre said the operation targeted large-scale illegal manufacturing and distribution of consumer goods which undermined legitimate business operations and threatened public country’s economy.
He said this is in line with the policy of the government to protect the interests of the consumer, promote the general welfare, and to establish standards of conduct for business and industry.
The authorities seized 3,183 units of smart television (TV) of assorted brands and sizes, including significant quantity of TV assembly, panels, monitors, remote control, back casings, power supplies, speakers, boxes of light-emitting diodes (LED) boards and monitors, glass front covers, assorted documents, stickers, assembly tools and other electronic items.
The arrested suspects were charged before the National Prosecution Service with violations of Article 18 (a) of RA 7394 for manufacturing and offering for sale; distributing in commerce; or importing into the Philippines consumer product which is not in conformity with an applicable consumer product quality or safety standard as promulgated by the law of the Philippines.
“Rest assured that your CIDG is relentless and unyielding in going after all criminals and criminal networks who engage in economic sabotage and violate the law of the land, to ensure a level playing field for lawful businesses, protect consumer rights, and safeguard the country’s economy,” Torre said.
