ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — A top official of Philippine National Police ordered a thorough investigation over the death of a police sergeant who was reportedly shot by his policewoman wife at the garage of their residence in Savannah Green Plains, Barangay Cauayan here.
Police Regional Office 3 director Brigadier General Jean S. Fajardo said the Angeles City Police Office under Colonel Joselito E. Villarosa Jr. is now looking into the February 4, 2025 shooting incident which involved Chief Master Sergeant Jayson C. Mariano and his wife Staff Sergeant Karen Mariano.
The victim at the time of his death was detailed at the Case Information and Database Management Unit of Angeles City Police Office while his wife assigned at the PNP Regional Force Unit 3.
Initial police investigation disclosed that the victim was seen parking his motorcycle inside their garage. Minutes later a gunshot was heard inside the couple’s house.
A neighbor of the couple identified as Voltaire Valdez Galarte rushed to the garage to check what happen and found the victim lying on a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in the head. A gun seen on the right side of his body.
Upon witnessing what happen, Galarte went back to his house to get his cellphone to call for police assistance and when he returned to the garage he saw the victim’s wife Karen picking the gun. The gun was recovered by the police from the suspect.
With the assistance of their neighbors, the victim was brought to PRI Medical Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Kristine Maegan.
Staff Master Sergeant Zenaida Marana, Executive Senior Police Officer of Police Station 5, also a neighbor of the couple responded to the crime scene together with a team of policemen. The suspect was place under arrest and brought to the police station for questioning.
Fajardo said the seized firearm was turned over to Police Station 5 and upon initial verification it was confirmed that the said firearm was issued to the suspect.
The suspect is now under police custody by after appropriate criminal charges were filed against her in court.
Investigators are still looking into the case to determine the motive of the killing. (UnliNews Online)
