DPWH, LGU hold groundbreaking for new Angat municipal DRRM office

CITY OF MALOLOS — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan 2nd District Engineering Office, in collaboration with the local officials of Angat, held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office at the Municipal Evacuation Center Compound in San Roque, Angat, Bulacan.

The three-story building is designed to provide essential frontline social services, administer first aid, offer transportation assistance including hospital transport, provide support for typhoons and calamities, facilitate efficient evacuation procedures, and carry out rescue operations across the entire municipality of Angat.

The Angat MDRRM Operation Center will occupy a floor area of 147 square meters, comprising an ambulance station, an information desk, and a lobby on the ground floor. The second floor will house a communication room, an assembly hall, and various offices, while the third floor will accommodate a water tank, sleeping quarters for rescuers, a gym station, an electrical room, a locker area, a drying and ironing area, and a fire exit.

In a message from District Engineer George DC. Santos, delivered by the Officer-in-Charge of the Construction Section, Engr. Ace M. Caper, the public was informed that this multi-storey facility is a disaster-resilient infrastructure and is designed to withstand a 7.5 magnitude earthquake, and is to be implemented in phases, with Phase I receiving a budget allocation of P9.7 million from the 2023 National Budget.

It was assured that the construction of the project’s second phase will not be delayed as the budget has already been allocated, and is hoped that the implementation of this life-saving project will inspire the people of Angat, especially the municipal employees, to serve the public with utmost responsibility, efficiency, and integrity.

Meanwhile, George Bautista delivered the message of Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador Pleyto, emphasizing his aim of building quality facilities, undertaking programs promoting public welfare, and delivery of social services that directly respond to the needs of the municipality of Angat in partnership with the DPWH.

In addition to Bautista and Caper, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Municipality of Angat Mayor, Honorable Reynante Bautista; Vice Mayor Arvin L. Agustin; Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) Officer Ma. Lourdes Alborida; local heads and officials of the Municipality of Angat; Bulacan 6th Congressional District Staff; and DPWH Bulacan 2nd DEO personnel. (UnliNews Online)
