MANILA — Philippine National Police Director General P/Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., warmly receives Undersecretary Paul M. Gutierrez, Executive Director of Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), during the latter’s call, Camp Crame on Wednesday (June 14).
During their talks, the PNP and PTFoMS agreed to continue with their standing arrangements, namely: The immediate formation of ‘SITG’ (Special Investigation Task Group) in case of violent incidents resulting in the death of any member of the press; and All PNP PIOs (Public Information Officer) in all police offices to remain as ‘Media Safety Vanguards’ (MSVs) whom any member of the press can approach to report on threats and harassments against them;
Further, a ‘Quick Alert’ central messaging system, managed by the PTFoMS, is to be immediately created that would notify the PNP leadership, including the PNP Chief, of any reported death, threats, and harassment of any member of the press.
The PNP Chief PIO/Spokesman, P/BGen Red Maranan, would be the PNP’s principal representative to the PTFoMS while a representative from the PNP DIDM shall also be designated focused on helping the PTFoMS solve pending cases.
