Norzagaray village chief shot dead

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — A barangay chairman of Barangay Bangkal in Norzagaray town was killed by unidentified armed men Friday night (June 16) on Eden Ville Road in Barangay Partida, police said.

Norzagaray acting police chief Lt. Col. Lynelle F. Solomon identified the victim as Marcelino “Kap Ube” Punzal, 63 years old, village chief of Barangay Bangkal, Norzagaray.

Solomon on Saturday said they were informed by a concerned citizen about the shooting incident in Barangay Partida and she immediately dispatched her team proceeded to the crime scene. The victim was already dead inside a Mitsubishi Estrada with plate number XJV-160.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Personnel from the Bulacan Police Provincial Forensic Unit recovered from the scene several pieces of fired cartridges and a slug from a .45-caliber gun.

As of press time, investigators were reviewing CCTV footage in the area and interviewing possible witnesses.

The family of Norzagaray Mayor Maria Elena “Merlyn” Germar and the whole municipal government expressed their condolences to the family and relatives of Barangay Captain Punzal described as a hardworking and efficient village chief.

“Our family and our Town Government sincerely sympathize and mourn the sudden death of a hard-working and efficient Punong Barangay of Bangkal, Captain Marcelino “Ube” Punzal for the bereaved family, relatives, and barangays. At the same time, we pray for the peace of his soul and the achievement of justice for his passing. May justice prevail for the Punzal family,” Mayor Germar posted on her FB account.
