Gov. Fernando pushes for food security in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS — Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Vice Gov. Alexis C. Castro through the Provincial Agriculture Office continuously improve agricultural production in the province to achieve bountiful yield and sufficient food for a healthy life and profitable future for the Bulakenyos.

In the Ceremonial Transplanting for the Provincial Techno-Demo on High-Value Crops and Inauguration of Drying, Rice Milling Facilities and Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Project held in Barangays Gabihan and Pala-Pala in San Ildefonso town recently, the People’s Governor said in his message delivered by his representative Jocelle Sagrado that being self-sufficient in terms of food production and helping the local economy through domestic food supply are his dreams for the province.

“Isa nga po sa pangarap ng inyong lingkod para sa ating lalawigan ay maging self-sufficient tayo sa pag-produce ng pagkain at makatulong sa ating lokal na ekonomiya pagdating sa pag-su-supply ng pagkain sa buong bansa. Kaya naman, lalo nating pinapaigting, pinapaunlad, at binibigyang pansin ang bawat programang pang-agrikultura na kung saan, higit na makikinabang ang magsasakang Bulakenyo at ang ating mga kababayan,” he said.

Gracing the ceremonial transplanting event were the owners and representatives of the eight participating seed companies including Allied Botanical Corporation, Advanta Seeds Philippines, SeedWorks Philippines, Inc., Enza Zaden Philippines, Ramgo International, Pilipinas Kaneko Seeds Corporation, East-West Seed Company Philippines and FA Greenseeds Corporation as well as Vice President Julius Barcelona and Executive Director Dr. Gabby Romero of Philippine Seed Industry Association (PSIA), Executive Director III Nestor Domenden of Philippine Council For Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF), among others.

Fernando thanked the partner agencies and the eight seed companies that participated in the said techno-demo on High-Value Crops that will help Bulakenyo farmers to increase the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of their crops.

Provincial Agriculturist Ma. Gloria SF. Carrillo said that the selected techno-demo land area is more than two hectares wherein the eight vegetable seed companies will each have 2,500 sqm to plant the seed varieties of lowland vegetables they are offering.

Come September 2023, a Harvest Festival will showcase the best-performing lowland vegetable varieties and the appropriate technologies employed to highlight further its contributions to the improvement of agriculture in Bulacan.

Meanwhile, the United San Ildefonso Farm Families Vegetables and Grains Marketing Cooperative in Brgy. Pala-Pala received the Post-Harvest Facility from Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHILMECH) under RCEF Mechanization Program which includes two units of mechanical driers and one unit of rice milling machine that has an overall cost of P10 million as well as the INSPIRE Project given by Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III as its livestock program aims to speed up the recovery of the hog sector from ASF.

The Provincial Techno Demo on High-Value Crops is a project of the Provincial Government of Bulacan in partnership with the Municipal Government of San Ildefonso headed by Mayor Fernando S. Galvez, Jr., Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) and Philippine Seed Industry Association (PSIA). (UnliNews Online)
