CITY OF MALOLOS – Another momentous occasion is about to happen for the Province of Bulacan as the much-awaited FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 is set to commence its activities at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan on Friday (Aug. 25).
With a seating capacity of 55,000, the Philippine Arena is set to host the opening day doubleheader in Group A, aiming to establish a new attendance record for the World Cup being the world’s largest indoor arena.
The Group A doubleheader includes the first-round match between Angola and Italy at 4:00 PM and Dominican Republic and The Philippines at 8:00 PM accordingly.
As the world turns its attention to the court of PH Arena, Governor Daniel R. Fernando accentuates the immense pleasure and honor that the province holds being chosen to hold this top-tier World Cup.
“Witnessing world-class athletes compete on our hometown is a source of pride and excitement. This event will showcase the vibrant spirit of sportsmanship and unity, leaving an indelible mark on our community. I am grateful to all who made this possible and look forward to the unforgettable matches ahead. Let’s continue to celebrate the power of sports to bring people together,” Fernando said.
With the Philippines being the main host along with Japan and Indonesia, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Japan Basketball Association, and the Indonesian Basketball Association were selected to lead the tournament.
Also, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in public schools and government work in Metro Manila and Bulacan to give way for the commencement ceremonies of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. (UnliNews Online)
