Gov. Fernando suspends classes, gov’t work in Bulacan

CITY OF MALOLOS – Classes and work in government offices have been suspended due to continuous rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by typhoon Hannah (Haikui) and also the presence of high tide in the coastal areas in the province of Bulacan.

In a memorandum DRF-09042023-461 issued by Governor Daniel R. Fernando on Monday morning (Sept. 4), stated that classes in all levels of public and private schools from September 4 to September 5 were suspended. It is advised to conduct online classes on said days so that students’ classes are not delayed

He added a suspension of work in all public offices from 2 p.m. on Monday in the province of Bulacan, except for offices that provide emergency/health/social and other basic needs of our people.

“Respective heads of private companies are likewise encouraged to cancel work to safeguard their personnel,” Fernando said in a memorandum.

Since Saturday, most areas in Bulacan have been experiencing intermittent rains, several roads were not passable due to the severe flooding caused by heavy rains and high tide.

“The public are advised to stay indoors and keep monitoring for rainfall advisories/weather updates,” the governor said.

He also added that such an order was based on the recommendation of the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) so that our province can avoid and prepare for any danger caused by the southwest wind and flooding.

Meanwhile, the PDRRMO head ret. Col. Manuel Lukban told the Philippine News Agency thru a cellphone interview that the water level in Ipo Dam as of 12 noon Monday has reached 101.12 meters with a total spill of 34.70 cms and overflow of 0.47 cms while the water level in Bustos Dam reached 17.16 meters as of 11 a.m. (spilling level 17.35 meters) and the total discharge of Sluice Gates was 28 cms.
