2 Chinese Nationals nabbed for poll gun violation in Bulacan

CAMP ALEJO S. SANTOS — Two Chinese nationals were arrested for allegedly violating the Comelec gun ban in Barangay Caingin, San Rafael, Bulacan.

Col. Relly B. Arnedo, Bulacan police director in a statement on Sunday (Oct. 1) said that the incident happened at about 1 p.m. on Saturday when a vigilant citizen contacted San Rafael police to report a potentially dangerous situation.

Arnedo identified the two Chinese nationals as Cao Jie, 35 years old, and Jia Zi Cong, 27 and employees of Momarco Vegetable Plantation in Brgy. Caingin, San Rafael.

Jie was carrying a Colt Caliber .45 pistol with the serial number 793616, along with a magazine loaded with 6 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition while Cong found an ARMSCOR cal. 9mm pistol with the serial number 1360158, along with a magazine loaded with 9 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“According to the concerned citizen, they observed two Chinese individuals openly carrying a short firearm while dining at a local eatery. Acting swiftly upon receiving the information, patrol officers were dispatched immediately to investigate further,” Arnedo said.

Upon arrival, Arnedo added, the local police officers identified the two Chinese individuals matching the description provided by the concerned citizen. However, the suspects were suspicious in behavior when they were aware of the approaching law enforcer in the area. They attempted to leave the premises hastily while conversing in Chinese.

“In the interest of public safety, responding police officers proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the suspects. This search led to the discovery of two firearms in their possession,” Arnedo remarked.

The arrested suspects are presently under the custody of the San Rafael police, while appropriate criminal complaints for Violation of the Omnibus Election Code and R.A. 10591 are now being prepared against the suspects for filing in court.

Arnedo ion his statement said that the Bulacan PNP is devoted to keeping a safe community free from criminal activities. The ability to stop individuals who incite fear and use violence in the community shows how steadfastly committed we are to battling lawlessness and violence for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections 2023.
