Bulacan now under ‘pink category’’ on African Swine Fever

CITY OF MALOLOS — Swine raisers in Bulacan are now starting to engage in pork production as the province was declared a Pink Zone or buffer zone for the African Swine Fever (ASF) said Voltaire Basinang, provincial veterinarian of Bulacan.

Basinang said on Wednesday (Oct. 11) that the province was placed under the pink category in September this year.

A pink zone ASF category is those areas that serve as buffers where the deadly virus is not present while a red zone ASF category is areas where the swine infection is detected.

The hog-raising industry in Bulacan is now starting to pick up, Basinang noted.

He advised swine raisers na “limitahin ang nakakapasok sa babuyan at paggamit ng disinfectants po.

“Pinagbabawal po ang pagpapakain ng tira tira (house scraps) sa baboy,” to prevent the recurrence of the disease in the province,” Basinang added. (UnliNews Online)
