5 former rebels in Central Luzon return to government’s side

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — In a remarkable display of commitment to the cause of peace, 5 former rebels have made the courageous decision to lay down their arms, surrender to the government, and renounce their support for militant groups.

These individuals, who once took up arms in the name of various causes, are now embarking on a new journey toward reconciliation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.

On October 17, 2023, these former rebels voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Bulacan, Olongapo, Nueva Ecija, and Aurora. Among them were former members affiliated with the Communist Front Organization – Gabriela/Anak-pawis and the Women’s Sector – Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid sa Gitnang Luzon-Licab, Nueva Ecija. They also turned over a significant cache of firearms, live ammunition, and high explosives.

The decision of these five individuals demonstrates that the path from rebellion to reconciliation is not only possible but also profoundly transformative.

Their stories serve as a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s resilience and the potential of dialogue, understanding, and forgiveness in resolving conflicts. Their actions underscore that it is never too late to choose the path of peace and contribute to the healing of a divided society. These brave individuals inspire us to work towards a more peaceful and harmonious world, one person at a time.

Brig. Gen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., the Regional Director of PRO3, emphasized that while the path to lasting peace is an ongoing endeavor, there is no doubt that the decision of these former rebels to disassociate themselves from their former groups marks a significant milestone in the ongoing journey toward stability and prosperity for the people.
