NORZAGARAY, Bulacan — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bulacan 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO), under the leadership of District Engineer George Santos and OIC-Assistant District Engineer Edwin Abengaña, led the turnover of a motorcycle with a sidecar and grocery packs to the teachers and students of Karahumi Elementary School in this town recently.
A total of 147 students, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, and 7 teaching personnel, benefited from the grocery packs, which contained rice, canned goods, biscuits, and water tumblers, with the event’s highlight being the turnover of a motorcycle with a sidecar to fulfill the school’s essential transportation needs.
“Nawa’y higit na makatulong ang munting regalo na ito, lalo na sa mga guro na kinakailangan pang maglabas mula sa kanilang sariling bulsa at i-upa ang pag-aarkila ng pagbababa at pag-akyat ng mga gamit na kakailanganin sa paaralan,” Santos said.
Santos also emphasized that this activity demonstrates the Department’s commitment to providing assistance to underprivileged school communities, especially the students.
“We are grateful that this project has served as an instrument of convenience and ease for all of us here at Karahumi ES. Rest assured that these donations will be beneficial to both the students and the teaching workforce as it will help us with our daily transportation,” Darwin Policarpio, a teacher from Karahumi said.
Santos expressed that it is truly rewarding to hear stories of eagerness and see smiles of great happiness that radiate in the students’ eyes, and he claimed that they look forward to conducting more projects like this in the future.
Meanwhile, Abengaña lauded the satisfying act displayed and said he was glad that the success of this activity had conveyed great joy, not just to the students but to the entire community of Karahumi ES.
“May this simple act of sharing be a reminder that you are not alone in this journey as long as we and the DPWH community are able to help, we will never get tired in extending our sincere support and aid,” Abengaña said.
The conduct of this outreach activity is part of the annual initiative of the District Engineer’s League of the Philippines, Inc. (DELP) known as the “Gamit Pang-Eskwela, Handog ay Saya Program.” (UnliNews Online)
