DPWH Bataan 1st DEO joins ICC, collects 130 sacks of debris for cleaner habitat

BATAAN — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bataan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) took action, to contribute to a cleaner world by participating in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) held at Orani Channel, Pantalan Luma, in the town of Orani.

A total of 22 district employees and 80 Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries volunteered and gathered to address the environmental challenge of keeping oceans trash-free, resulting in the collection of 130 sacks of trash and marine debris.

“Coastal cleanups are essential as they directly address marine pollution, a major global challenge affecting the health of our planet,” District Engineer Erlindo R. Flores, Jr. said.

Flores also emphasized that these efforts play a crucial role in safeguarding local communities by preventing harm or death to creatures that may ingest or become entangled in the trash.

During the cleanup, various types of waste were collected, including plastic wrappers, disposable diapers, and slippers, underscoring the pressing need for improved waste management and increased public awareness regarding the harmful effects of litter.

This cleanup drive serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect our oceans, with the hope that such efforts will inspire other agencies to take action and contribute to a cleaner and healthier planet. (UnliNews Online)
