CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed the concreting of a 1.1-kilometer section of the NIA-UPRIIS access road in Barangay Santo Cristo in the town of San Isidro.
Residents and motorists are expressing appreciation for the paving of this section of the farm-to-market road (FMR), which they say can also serve as an alternate route to Gapan City.
“Once the concreting of the entire irrigation road is completed, this will provide ease in travel between San Isidro and Gapan City, avoiding congestion on Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA),” stated District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad.
Trinidad further emphasized that the smooth surface of the newly concreted 5-meter-wide road can help reduce wear and tear on vehicles, saving farmers money on transportation costs and enabling them to reach markets more quickly and efficiently.
Meanwhile, Assistant District Engineer Robert Jay Panaligan shared that, unlike the situation before the project’s implementation, the dirt road becomes dusty during dry seasons and muddy during wet seasons, posing road safety and health risks to residents.
“Now, they are safer for motorists as well as pedestrians due to improved road visibility, while residents no longer have to endure dusty environments,” Panaligan said.
He also highlighted that, improved roads like this, can facilitate better access to community centers, schools, and medical facilities, enhancing social connections.
The implementation of the P11.7-million FMR project was in convergence with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to boost the agricultural industry in the municipality. (UnliNews Online)
