CITY OF MALOLOS — The Provincial Government of Bulacan has come out with an advisory that Angat Dam released water on Thursday morning (Nov. 30).
Ret. Col. Manuel Lukban, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) head cited the advisory of the National Power Corporation that Angat Dam, which is currently at 212.30 meters above sea level (masl) as of 3 p.m. Wednesday opened its spillway gate with an opening of 0.5 meters on Thursday morning.
“This is to maintain the safe level of 212 masl after continuous inflow/rains in the past 48 hours,” Lukban said.
He added all local government units where the Angat River traverses have been notified and NPC shall continue to make public warnings near the river on Friday 6 a.m.
“The public is advised to stay away from the Angat River during the spilling operations,” Lukban added.
The water released from Angat Dam flows down to Ipo Dam and runs down towards Bustos Dam and excess water is discharged on its downstream river system before flowing out to Manila Bay.
As these developed, Josephine Salazar, director of the National Irrigation Administrator in Central Luzon, said that by 11 a.m. Thursday, Ipo Dam was releasing 66 cubic meters per second ( CMS).
“These water releases can be safely accommodated by Bustos Dam since its water elevation is only 14.75 meters below its critical level of 15 meters and still 2.6 meters below its spilling level,” Salazar added. (UnliNews Online)
