IN celebration of International Volunteer Day, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), a global peace organization, hosted a series of events aimed at promoting community well-being and environmental sustainability involving youth volunteers from various groups.
Mandated by the United Nations, International Volunteer Day is annually celebrated on December 5 to recognize the efforts and commitment of volunteers from all around the world especially in doing social, economic and environmental works. HWPL volunteers worldwide conducted volunteer activities in 32 regions from 22 countries simultaneously. In the Philippines, three (3) events were held from December 3 to 5 in Manila and Cotabato City.
December 3: Manila Bay Clean-Up Drive
Around 80 HWPL volunteers gathered for a clean-up drive along the picturesque shores of Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach. This initiative aims to contribute to the preservation of our natural environment, emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean and healthy ecosystems.
December 4: Toy Donation Drive for Badjao Children and Students
Promoting the spirit of giving, HWPL organized a Toy Donation Drive. Toys and clothes generously donated by partner schools were distributed to over 150 Badjao children and daycare students, recognizing the transformative power of play and the essentiality of basic needs. The security sector facilitated games to interact with the children and create an atmosphere of joy and connection, removing the stigma and fear of children towards men in uniform. This initiative aims to bring smiles to the faces of children who may face various challenges.
December 5: Cotabato City Clean-Up Drive
Continuing the spirit of volunteerism, HWPL initiated another clean-up drive, this time in Cotabato City Old Market in partnership with Kutawato Greenland Initiatives and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). Around 100 individuals joined from the security sectors and various youth and student organizations. Focused on raising awareness and educating the community on environmental protection and waste management, this initiative aims to promote sustainable practices for responsible waste disposal, especially in public places such as the market, as well as strengthen a sense of community and collaboration, especially among the youth.
HWPL expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in these events and supported them through donations contributing towards building a cleaner, healthier, and more compassionate world.
