CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — In a breakthrough, the Bulacan Police Provincial Office successfully apprehended a group involved in cybercrime activities on Thursday (Jan. 25) in Brgy. Pinagbakahan, City of Malolos.
In a report on Friday, Col. Relly Arnedo, Bulacan provincial director said the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), in joint efforts with Regional Anti-Cyber Unit – 3 (RACU – 3), and Malolos City police, conducted law enforcement operations resulting in the arrest of twenty individuals.
The suspects were caught red-handed operating computers used for extorting money from foreigners.
“The modus operandi involved threatening to disseminate explicit photos and videos unless a ransom was paid,” Arnedo said.
All suspects are now in police custody and the seized pieces of evidence has been turned over to RACU3 for Forensic and Digital Analysis. Criminal complaints under Section 4 (c) (1) of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) are being prepared against the arrested individuals.
“This successful operation underscores the commitment of Bulacan PNP to combat cybercrimes and protect individuals from online extortion threats,“ Arnedo said. (UnliNews Online)
