CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Police Regional Office 3 commemorated on Thursday, January 25 the heroism of the 44 SAF troopers who died in the clash between terrorist groups in Mamasapano, Maguindanao 9 years ago.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the PRO3 Heroes’ Monument, Camp Olivas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga at exactly 9 a.m. with P/Major Gen. Belli B. Tamayo, Director for Personnel and Records Management as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
President Rodrigo Duterte has declared, through his Proclamation No. 164, that the 25th day of January of every year is observed as the Day of National Remembrance for SAF 44.
The highlight of the event was the reading of the Chief, PNP’s message by MGen. Tamayo wherein P/Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. emphasized the sacrifice of the SAF 44 which serves as a challenge to the police force.
“The Mamasapano incident stands as a stark reminder of the challenges and risks our law enforcement officers face daily in the pursuit of safeguarding our nation and its citizens. May their sacrifice serve as a challenge to us all. A challenge to continue their heroism, to embody greatness, and to act with honor and love for our country,” as stated in the message of the Chief PNP.
