CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan — A tragic incident occurred in Brgy. Balite, San Miguel around Wednesday (Feb. 28) early morning when a police officer lost life in the one of duty.
In his statement, Col. Relly B. Arnedo, Bulacan provincial director identified the victim as Patrolman Edmond John Arenas, 26 years old, a resident of Brgy. Buliran, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, and a member of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company.
Arnedo said the victim, stationed at Patrol Base in Brgy. Buhol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, Bulacan, lost his life duty due to a regrettable accident involving a government-marked vehicle, a Mitsubishi L200 driven by Joel Rivera, 53 years old, a resident of 16 Urban Street, Ibung Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya.
Investigations revealed, according to Arnedo, that the police-marked vehicle, a Troop Carrier Hyundai 100, driven by Patrolman Klein Orbita, was traversing southbound towards Manila.
“At the time of the incident, the victim was reportedly gasping his breath on board at the back of the mobile vehicle. Tragically, he fell from behind of the mobile vehicle and was accidentally struck and overrun by the Local Government Unit of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya property, bearing plate number SJS946, driven by Joel Rivera,” Arnedo said.
He added despite immediate efforts to provide medical attention, Arenas was rushed to San Miguel District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending physician.
Appropriate criminal complaints against the driver suspect are now being prepared for filing in court.
“The loss of Patrolman Edmond John Arenas is deeply mourned by the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, his family, colleagues, and the community he served. His dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered and honored,” Arnedo remarked.
Arnedo added the incident is under thorough investigation by the Bulacan Police Provincial Office to determine the circumstances and factors leading to this unfortunate event. (UnliNews Online)
