CITY OF MALOLOS — Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Vice Gov. Alexis C. Castro, with the help of the Provincial Youth and Sports Development Office (PYSDO), took a big step towards boosting the well-being of Bulakenyo student athletes by spearheading the Grand Launch of the Bulacan University and Collegiate Athletic Association (BUCAA) at the Garden Ballroom, EDSA Shangri-la, Manila recently.
BUCAA isn’t just about basketball – although they’ve got a whopping 32 teams ready to hit the court from various universities and colleges in Bulacan, they are also bringing the heat with a Cheerdance Competition featuring 10 collegiate groups, along with plans to introduce volleyball, chess, table tennis, and badminton in the near future.
Fernando takes pride in Bulacan’s reputation as a nurturing ground for champions and highlighted BUCAA’s three main goals: fostering self-growth, boosting school pride, and igniting the Bulakenyo spirit.
In addition to that, he also brought up the exciting plan of the Provincial Government of Bulacan to establish a Sports Academy at the Bulacan Sports Complex, aiming to give the facilities a much-needed facelift in the coming years by teaming up with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco.
Board Member Casey Tyrone E. Howard, the President of the Provincial Federation of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), showed his full support for the BUCAA on behalf of the energetic and enthusiastic Bulakenyo youth in the province.
Further, the grand launching was attended by BUCAA Board of Directors including Fernando as the Chairperson; Atty. Gerard Nelson Manalo, Vice Chairperson; Atty. Nikki Manuel S. Coronel, Tournament Director; and the heads and representatives of the participating colleges and universities.
The BUCAA was established through Executive Order No. 11 in accordance to Republic Act 10742 also known as the “Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015”, where it outlines nine key areas of youth involvement, which serve as the foundation for developing the Local Youth Development Plan that will be instrumental in designing programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of the youth in Bulacan.
