Senators Alan and Pia provide timely aid to more than a thousand flood victims in Bulacan

STRIVING to recover from flooding that hit the province, more than a thousand Bulakeños caught a glimpse of hope as timely assistance reached their area.

“Sa pandaragat ko po, hindi naman po araw-araw ang kita. Minsan tatlo o apat na beses sa isang linggo lang ang huli,” said Hermano Santos, a fisherman and victim of the incident.

“May mga estudyante ako, kailangan talaga magsipag. Ngunit salamat kina Senator Alan Peter at Pia Cayetano, magagamit po ito [livelihood assistance] sa pangkabuhayan. Dagdag pambaon din po ito ng bunso ko,” he added.

On April 23, 2024, the offices of Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano visited Hagonoy, Bulacan to provide aid for residents, helping them recover from the flood.

Michelle Perez Santos, a laundress, shared the challenges she faces in her daily life.

“Sa paglalabandera, mahirap po, ang sakit sa balakang. Tapos, minsan kapos, gawa po na mahal ang bilihin. Sapat lang po talaga, minsan nga po hindi pa,” she said.

“Kaya salamat po talaga sa biyayang ibinigay,” she added, knowing that the aid received will help her meet her daily needs and can also be used to further improve her livelihood.

To ensure aid reaches Bulakeños, the sibling senators partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

AICS offers necessary aid to individuals facing difficult situations, such as devastating floods, to facilitate their recovery.

The extension of help to Bulakeños was made possible through the active involvement and support of Vice Mayor Ma. Rosario Sy-Alvarado, and Councilor Dalisay Baby Ople-San Juan.

Beyond the 1,000 individuals already receiving aid, there is further hope ahead as an additional 500 people are set to receive assistance from the offices of the sibling senators.

Another round of support is scheduled for April 29, 2024, offering support for Bulakeños to rebuild their lives and communities in the aftermath of the flood. (UnliNews Online)
