Masinloc farmers, fisherfolk undergo skills training

IBA, Zambales — About 20 farmers and fisherfolk in Masinloc, Zambales have undergone skills training provided by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Members of the Pinagkaisang Samahang Magsasaka Mangingisda Multipurpose Cooperative (PSMM-MPC) learned how to make roselle juice, tea, and other products.

DTI Provincial Director Enrique Tacbad said the capacity building activity aims to provide beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) with a new way to improve their business.

“By providing skills training on roselle products, PSMM-MPC members are gaining a new income stream,” he added.

Roselle is known for its potential health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, being high in Vitamin C, aiding in weight loss, and containing polyphenols that have anti-cancer properties.

Meanwhile, DTI assured that it will continue to assist CARP beneficiaries through product development, skills training, market promotion, and access.

There will also be programs to grow existing businesses that benefit members and surrounding communities.
