BALANGA CITY — About 75 members of the Kababaihang Bisig ng Kaunlaran ng Sumalo (KABISIGKA-Sumalo) in Hermosa received livelihood training on vegetable and fruit processing from the Bataan Peninsula State University- Extension and Training Services Office (BPSU-ETSO).

The training aims to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic status of women within the community and their families, through empowerment and capacity building.

BPSU-ETSO Director Bernadeth Gabor emphasized the significance of the training in preparing participants for their future endeavors.

“This initiative will equip the women of barangay Sumalo with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue various livelihood opportunities, ensuring their sustainable socio-economic development,” she pressed.

BPSU Technical Vocational Education and Training Center focal person John Robert Garcia said that they taught the participants the necessary utensils, recipes, and step-by-step process for making pineapple and mango jam, pickled vegetables, banana chips, and camote chips.

He also stressed the importance of food processing and maintaining hygiene standards during production.

Meanwhile, KABISIGKA-Sumalo Coordinator Chriceliz Bartolome highlighted that through the training, women in their community will now have equal livelihood opportunities and the chance to improve their living conditions.

Likewise, beneficiary Abigail Amon expressed gratitude to BPSU-ETSO for their support.

“Thank you very much to Dr. Gabor and her team for conducting this training for us. This will be of great help to me, especially since I also bake and have a small online food business,” she shared.

As part of the broader agenda of empowering local communities and fostering economic growth, this initiative underscores the commitment of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to uplift the livelihoods of Filipinos across the nation
