CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — In a sudden twist of events incumbent Pampanga Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda opted the run as vice-governor giving way to his mother Vice-Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda to gun for the governorship of this province for the fourth time.
Everybody was surprised even the media when the elder Pineda submitted her certificate of candidacy as governor of Pampanga on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at the provincial office of Commission on Election (COMELEC) here.
Along with Nanay Pineda, her son Dennis also filed his certificate of candidacy running for vice-governor of Pampanga. Both mother and son tandem is running under the local political group Kambilan Party.
With this development the gubernatorial race in the province has become intense between two opposing camp.
The elder Pineda is facing Engineer Danilo Baylon in the governorship position. Baylon was defeated by the younger Pineda in the last 2001 election with a slight margin.
For the second time, Baylon will again run as governor of Pampanga along with Eddie “Among” Panilio as his vice-governor.
Panlilio was once the governor of Pampanga in 2007, he was replaced by Nanay Pineda after he lost his bid for re-election in 2010.
Baylon filed his certificate of candidacy on October 6, 2024 while Panlilio filed his certificate of candidacy two days after at the provincial office of Commission on Election in Pampanga. Baylon and Panlilio are running as independent. (UnliNews Online)
