DPWH Bataan 3rd DEO preserves Bagac Coast for Int‘l Coastal Cleanup Day

BATAAN — A local beach cleanup activity along the shorelines of Barangay Pag-Asa in Bagac was spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Bataan 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO).

District Engineer Maribel Navarro, Assistant District Engineer Henry John Morada, and Acting Maintenance Chief Delfin Francia led a 70-member workforce in collecting a truckload of plastic bottles, debris, and other unwanted materials that could potentially harm the marine ecosystem.

Navarro highlighted that this initiative marks the second consecutive year the district office has hosted the event, fostering camaraderie and a shared commitment to conservation among DEO employees and local volunteers from the KALIPI – Bagac Chapter.

“The commitment of the DPWH to environmental protection goes beyond eco-friendly projects; it also includes taking care of our waterways and the life within them to promote a healthier environment for future generations,” Navarro stated.

Morada also emphasized the DEO’s unique opportunity to preserve the beauty of its coastal areas, enhancing participants’ sense of social and environmental responsibility.

This collaboration is appreciated by local leaders, including KALIPI – Bagac Chapter President Rita Mas, who expressed her gratitude to the DPWH Bataan 3rd DEO for its active involvement in the activity.

“Napakahalaga po nitong coastal cleanup dahil napakalaki ng maitutulong sa ating environment, lalo na sa panahon ng dengue at paghahanda na rin sa pagdating ng mga turista,” Mas said.

The beach cleaning activity was part of International Coastal Cleanup Day, a global initiative promoting environmental responsibility and the protection of marine ecosystems.
