TARLAC Governor Susan Yap said that the impeachment filed by the House of Representatives against Vice President Sara Duterte is “devisive” and will only harm the economy of the country.
Yap made the statement before members of Pampanga Press Club during a breakfast meeting held at the Stanley Hall of Best Western Hotel in Angeles City on Tuesday (Jan. 7).
The lady governor is appealing to Congress to heed the call of the President as the impeachment case will devide the nation which is not good for the economy and shun foreign corporation to invest in the country.
She said the impeachent against the Vice President is definitely devisive as it is political in nature.
According to Yap the impeachment will take much of the time of the House and the Senate. “Our Senators will be the judges if the impeachment prospered and some of the House members will be the prosecutors, I am pretty sure that the entire nation will be focused on the tria, if that will happen, our economy will be stagnant because of the political melodrama,” Yap said.
So far, three impeachment cases were filed against Duterte and are yet to be transmitted to the office of Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“In this time that our country is in the recovery phase, any political instability will surely affect our economy. The president is just right in calling for the House members to ignore the impeachment,” she further said.
Yap will end her term as governor of Tarlac province in May and runs for mayor of Tarlac City under the banner of Nationalist People’s Coalition.
In December last year, President Marcos said that he does not support calls for the Vice President’s impeachment as it would not benefit the Filipino people. “This is not important. This does not make any difference to even one single Filipino life. So, why waste time on this,” the President said.
Yap added that she is supporting the peaceful gathering that the INC will undertake on January 13.
“I pledge my full support to the rally to be conducted by the Iglasia Ni Cristo on January 13 as this noble and peaceful gathering will surely bring peace and unity among Filipinos and will help bring stability to our country,” she said.
The lady governor added, “I believe that any political instability will surely affect our economy. I pray that with this rally initiated by the Iglesia Ni Cristo, President Bong-Bong and Vice President Sara will mend fences and once again unite for the betterment of all Filipinos,” she said.
