PPC’s 2nd golf game raises support for Journalism Institute

PAMPANGA — To raise seed funds for the establishment of the Pampanga Press Club (PPC) Journalism Institute, PPC will hold its 2nd Invitational Golf Tournament on March 28, 2025 at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao.

Minerva Arceo, PPC acting president, said a number of private companies, government corporations, public officials and individuals committed support to the sports event in appreciation of the 75-year-old club’s project.

“We are committed to establish the Journalism Institute to provide a solid learning for interested youth who can be trained by seasoned and award-winning journalists. In this age of artificial intelligence and overrated social media culture, it is important to teach the younger generation on the practice of fair, accurate and truthful reporting. We also want to provide them a deeper understanding of the role of media in the society,” Arceo said.

Tonette Orejas, PPC chairwoman, said the creation of the institute needs the widest support from the communities.

“The challenges and development of Pampanga need generations of responsible news media practitioners,” Orejas said.

Lincoln Baluyut, publisher of The Voice Newsweekly and twice past PPC president, chairs the golf project.
