CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan –“You are our champions, our life servers, and of course, our heroes. At muli’t muli po, maraming salamat po sa inyong kabayanihan. Saludo po ako sa inyong lahat dahil hindi lang dugo ang inyong naibigay at maibibigay. More than that, kayo ay nagkaloob ng pag-asa at pagkakataong makapagligtas ng buhay.”
This was the message of Governor Daniel R. Fernando to Bulakenyos who have donated substantial amounts of blood and to organizations with the highest blood contributions from the year 2020 to 2022 during the Blood Galloners Awarding Ceremony 2023 held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here recently.
Eighty-six individuals who have voluntarily donated blood at least ten times or more, groups and organizations including the Top 3 Cities/Municipalities with the highest number of blood collections received plaques of appreciation.
The Top 3 Cities/Municipalities with the highest number of blood collections were the City of San Jose Del Monte with 3,055 blood bags collected; the Municipality of Hagonoy with 2,066 and the City of Malolos with 1,598 while the Top 3 Cities/Municipalities with the highest number of Community-based Mobile Blood Donations (MBD) were the Municipality of Hagonoy with 57 MBD; City of San Jose Del Monte with 51 MBD and City of Malolos with 25 MBD.
Damayang Filipino Movement, Inc. was also recognized as one of the most supportive non-government organizations with a total of 25 blood donations along with Calumpit Municipal-Triskelion Council (TRIBu) with 12 blood donations while the PGB District Hospitals were recognized as the Most Supportive Government Hospitals with a total of 11 blood donations.
Fernando also promoted the significance of voluntary blood donation and urged Bulakenyos to be regular blood donors in an aim to achieve the national target for blood donation which is 1% of the overall population.
“Isa sa bawat pitong daang tao ay nangangailangan ng dugo at ang 500 ml ng dugo ay maaaring makapagsalba ng tatlong buhay. Ito po ang dahilan kung bakit walang humpay ang panawagan ng inyong lingkod for voluntary blood donation. Kailangan nating matugunan ang increasing demand ng dugo at magkaroon ng augmentation para sa blood supply sa ating lalawigan. We take pride in urging all Bulakenyos to become blood donors,” the governor said.
The awarding ceremony was also attended by the PGB’s blood partners including the Philippine Army, Religious Groups, Fraternity Groups, PGB Hospitals, NGOs/Companies, the Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH- CLCHD), Philippine Association of Medical Technologist, Regional Voluntary Blood Service Program Coordinators, Local Chief Executives, City/Municipal Health Officers, Philippine Red Cross, DOH-Bulacan, 70th Infantry Batallion of Philippine Army, Provincial and Local Blood Councils and PGB Department Heads.
