BMC ready to serve Bulakenyos, all set to treat possible firecracker-related injuries

CITY OF MALOLOS — Governor Daniel R. Fernando made sure that the province’s main hospital is all set to serve in case of a possible influx of patients with firecracker-related injuries in welcoming the new year as he inspected the Bulacan Medical Center in this city Friday afternoon (Dec. 29).

Fernando, together with Department of Health Regional Director Corazon I. Flores, Vice Gov. Alexis C. Castro, BMC Medical Director Dr. Angelito Trinidad, Provincial Health Office-Public Health Head Dr. Edwin Tecson visited the Emergency Room of the hospital and checked its patients and facilities.

According to Trinidad, in addition to the doctors and nurses on duty, they have an on-call go team that is ready to be deployed in case of mass casualties.

Also, all supplies and equipment are complete, and ambulances are on standby 24/7.

So far, the BMC has treated one firecracker-related minor injuries.

Meanwhile, Flores reported that most of the victims of firecracker-related injuries in the region are children which is why along with the vice governor, she reminded the parents to watch their children carefully to avoid the same incidents.

“Sa buong Central Luzon, as of December 28, mayroon na po tayong 40 firecracker-related injuries, which is higher compared to the 18 firecracker-related injuries during the same period last year. Gayunpaman, mas mababa pa rin ito kumpara sa pre-pandemic times kaya bantayan pa rin po natin ang ating pagsalubong sa bagong taon,” the regional director said.

Also, “Boga” is reportedly to be the top cause, comprising 30 percent of firecracker-related injuries in Central Luzon.

Moreover, Fernando encouraged the Bulakenyos to watch what they eat during the holidays.

“Kailangang ingatan rin natin ang ating pagkain. Umiwas tayo sa masyadong maaalat, matataba. Bantayan din natin ang mga ito. Pagtulung-tulungan natin upang ligtas nating masalubong ang bagong taon,” the governor said. (With a report from Jason B. Estrada/UnliNews Online)
