CITY OF MALOLOS — The Singkaban Festival 2024 marked its third year with a celebration of inclusivity and fun, as football players ranging from under 7 years old to 40 years old and above had the opportunity to showcase their skills and passion for the sport during the Copa Singkaban 7-A-Side Football Festival 2024. The event took place at the Bulacan Sports Complex in Brgy. Bagong Bayan last Sunday (Sept. 8).
A total of 60 football teams competed across nine categories, with the Laos Football Club emerging as champions in the U7 category, Philman Football Club in the U9 category, Pinoy Wolves Football Club in the U11 category, Bataan Football Club in the U13 and U15 categories, Tarlac National High School in the U17 category, 4PM-A Kickers in the 35 and above category, Ilonggo United in the Men’s Open Category, and San Miguel United Club in the Women’s Open category.
All winning teams, including the first to third runners-up, received medals and trophies. Special awards were also presented, such as the Golden Boot award, Best Defender, Best Goalkeeper, and Sportsmanship award.
Randy Cameno, a member of the 4PM-A Kickers team and part of the back-to-back champion team, expressed his gratitude and joy for this year’s football festival.
“Salamat po kay Gob. Daniel Fernando at Vice Gov. Alex Castro sa opportunity na ibinigay ninyo sa amin ngayong Singkaban Festival. Taun-taon naman ito pero mas masaya ngayon kasi maraming mga bata at mga magulang ang nag-eenjoy dahil binigyang pansin ang football dito sa Bulacan at sana po ay magtuluy-tuloy pa,” Cameno said.
In addition, professional football player Solomon Okereke from the Pampanga Strikers made a special appearance to kick off the football festival. Okereke, known for his unstoppable force on the field, brought excitement and energy to the event with his presence.
In his message, Atty. Nikki Manuel Coronel, OIC of the Provincial Youth, Sports, and Development Office, said that the Singkaban Festival celebrates the talent, refinement and dreams of the Bulakenyos while also fostering a sense of pride and unity among the athletes of Bulacan.
“Ito po ay isang ipinagmamalaking selebrasyon kung saan pinagdiriwang natin ang talento, yung kalinangan, yung kultura, at lahat ng pangarap ng ating mga kabataang Bulakenyo kaya po sana po sa araw na ito ay maglaro po tayo nang may puso, maglaro po tayo nang may paggalang sa ating mga kalaro at siyempre kailangan mayroong disiplina,” Atty.
