PRO3’s ‘Oplan Katok’ yields 91 loose firearms

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — A total of 91 loose firearms were voluntarily surrendered by gun owners to authorities during the month-long implementation of “Oplan Katok” across Central Luzon from August 1 to 31, 2024.

PBGEN Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., Regional Director of Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), explained that “Oplan Katok” is a nationwide initiative of the Philippine National Police (PNP), wherein authorities conduct house-to-house visits to remind firearm holders to renew their gun licenses or voluntarily turn over unregistered firearms for safekeeping in police custody.

PBGEN Hidalgo also highlighted that the intensified campaign led to the collection of various calibers of firearms, underscoring its effectiveness in promoting public safety.

“This serves as a reminder that owning a firearm is a serious responsibility, and every gun owner must comply with the law and remain accountable,” he emphasized. (UnliNews Online)
